Disarmament and International Security Committee
The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. The committee addresses the security and demilitarization throughout all countries and regions, while ensuring that citizens around the globe remain protected. In particular, DISEC is concerned with the regulation of all member states’ armaments, working towards the UN’s goal of total disarmament as well as the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, chemical, and biological), conventional arms control, and measures to promote international peace and security. DISEC explores the impacts of armed conflict on international stability, such as terrorism, peacekeeping, and the role of regional security arrangements. By fostering international cooperation and promoting effective measures to reduce the threat of armed violence, DISEC’s ultimate goal is to achieve a world free from the threat of armed conflict and weapons of mass destruction.
